Lethbridge Police have determined a report of a male armed with scissors cutting the hair of a teen girl was unfounded.
Police received a report on October 6, 2022 that two 13-year-old girls on their lunch break from school were walking in the westside Safeway parking lot when they were approached by an unknown male who produced a pair of scissors, grabbed one of the girls and cut off a large section of her hair. It was reported the male proceeded to grab the second girl and attempted to cut her hair, but she was able to break free. The girls then ran back to Father Leonard Van Tighem School, where the incident was reported to staff, who subsequently contacted police.
A media release was issued by police, seeking any witnesses to the incident. Through further investigation it was determined the report was unfounded and no such incident had occurred. The girls were subsequently issued a warning for public mischief.
No further details will be released on the matter.

Lethbridge Police are investigating an assault after a male armed with scissors approached a teen girl and cut off some of her hair.
On October 6, 2022 between 1:15 and 1:30 p.m. two 13-year-old girls on their lunch break from school were walking in the westside Safeway parking lot when they were approached by an unknown male who produced a pair of scissors, grabbed one of the girls and cut off a large section of her hair. The male proceeded to grab the second girl and attempted to cut her hair, but she was able to break free and the pair ran back to Father Leonard Van Tighem School where the incident was reported to staff, who subsequently contacted police.
The subject is described as a Caucasian male, approximately 15-18 years-old, 5’10,” with blue eyes wearing a black hoodie with the hood up, a medical mask covering his face, black pants and Nike shoes.
