Positive COVID-19 Cases Identified at Father Leonard Van Tighem School

April 26, 2021

Dear staff, parents, and guardians of students attending Father Leonard Van Tighem School,

We have been informed that two individuals at Father Leonard Van Tighem have been diagnosed with COVID-19.  We are praying for these individuals and their families during this time and wish them a quick recovery.

Those considered to be close contacts have already been informed and are required to stay home until further notice. If you have not already received a message asking you to quarantine, then your child is not considered a close contact and may continue their daily activities while adhering to all public health guidance. Also, please be aware that, out of respect for those impacted and in accordance with AHS guidelines, personal details about members of the community who may test positive for COVID-19 cannot be disclosed.

Further, we would like to thank those who have shared their results with school administration.  This has certainly allowed us to follow up with AHS and provide notification to families about the need to quarantine quickly.  We ask that you continue to share this information, if and when you learn of any positive test results in your home. Rest assured that we will be respectful of your dignity and privacy. Our aim is simply to reduce the spread of this disease and ensure the health and safety of our staff and students.

Lastly, we would like to remind everyone to monitor for any signs or symptoms of COVID-19 using Alberta Health’s updated daily checklist for children under 18. If your child has any of the symptoms of illness listed, please fill out the online Alberta Health Services COVID-19 self-assessment or call Health Link at 811 and keep your child at home.

We continue to work closely with AHS and Alberta Education to ensure the safety of our students and staff, and will provide additional information as it becomes available. Please keep the health and safety of all those impacted by COVID-19 in your prayers.

Sincerely,
Principal Greg Kostiuk, Father Leonard Van Tighem School
and
Superintendent Ken Sampson, Holy Spirit Catholic School Division
